At the Givaudan Foundation, we strongly value initiatives that not only provide new learning opportunities, but that also contribute to improving health or help to restore the environment. Vanilla is an iconic spice sourced in Madagascar where it is grown mostly by smallholder farmers, many of which live in the island’s Sava region. Here, the Givaudan Foundation has been supporting 32 villages of vanilla producers since 2014 with projects benefitting up to 17,000 villagers. In this article we highlight some initiatives that aim to increase food security and access to education in vanilla producing communities.

Givaudan and the Givaudan Foundation receive Conservation International’s Hero Award for Tonka Bean programme in Venezuela where the aim of the project is to empower local communities to conserve 150,000 hectares of forests in the Caura Basin.
